A child is like a butterfly in the wind.  Some fly higher than others but each one flies the best it can.  Why compare one against the other?  Each one is different.  Each one is special.  Each one is beautiful.

I've facilitated learning for 20 years in the Vicksburg Community Schools in a variety of capacities including elementary teacher, instructional consultant, K-5 interventionist, and academic coach.  I also serve as a mentor coach and district technology integration leader.  I was named 2019 Michigan Teacher of the Year, which has given me the opportunity to work with students, educators, and education stakeholders across the state and nation. I enjoy teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the Special Education and Literacy Studies department at Western Michigan University.

I grew up in Frankenmuth and attended Western Michigan University after high school.  I graduated from WMU in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  In 2004, I earned my Master of Arts degree in Education and Professional Development from Western Michigan University, while also earning a Graduate Certificate in Educational and Instructional Technology.  In the fall of 2019, I began work to earn a PhD in Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment and Evaluation from Walden University.

I have been married for eighteen years and we have two children.  Cassie is sixteen years old and is in tenth grade this year at Vicksburg High School.  Our son, Drew, is ten and is proud to be a fifth grader at Sunset Lake.  Our family has a cat named Raja and a dog named Rocket.

In the summer, my family and I enjoy camping up and down the coast of our beautiful Lake Michigan and we downhill ski throughout the winter months.  I work closely with teachers in Texas and the United Arab Emirates on STEM integration.  I’ve enjoyed working with other teacher leaders through SVSU’s Gerstacker Fellowship this year, which will take me to Germany in the spring!

On a personal note (for my students)...these are a few of my favorite things:
